Cheap Shots

Competing guns fire
Clashing blades clang
When the ashes have cleared
Another love bites the dust

She loves him
He thinks he hates her
She chooses her weapon
He meets it fairly

His betrayal hurt
She needed comforting
He called her fears revenge
As he raised his weapon

The blades come together
In a frenzy of fear and anger
The bullets are loaded
Who has the advantage

She raises her gun and fires
The bullet has injured him
His fury knows no bounds
"Cheap shot," he bellows

They retrieve their blades
And meet again on the field
As he swings his sword
She lowers hers

Already in flight
The blade cannot be stopped
He cries out hoarsely
As his blade pierces her heart

He realizes too late
Just what she had done
Her "cheap shot"
Had been carefully planned

He gathers her up
Blood soaking his vest
She smiles softly
"You were always in my heart"

"I had to prove that it wasn't
A cheap shot by any means
You needed to realize
That I did it for you."

She dies there in his arms
His cry is of shame
Too late he has realized
That her cheap shot was love...
